I may be a psychopath, but I cannot let my psychopathy dictate who I am. I was someone before I was ever assessed as a psychopath and that person did not magically die with the results of the Psychopathy Checklist – Revised.
Yes, it is extraordinarily difficult for me to separate the condition from my identity because my identity is so weak to begin with. However, I do realize that some summary of my being exists even if I do not know who she is. Certainly, that representation is not 100% psychopath. There must be other facets to my existence and personality that I am simply unable to articulate.
The more one lets any condition dictate their existence, the more they become a caricature rather than a unique human being. Challenge yourself to see past those conditions you may have.
